Software Application Engineer

We are an established and innovative engineering and manufacturing company that specializes in Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) for mission critical markets. We have been in business for several decades and remain an industry leader. We have a need for a full-time Software Application Engineer within our Salt Lake City, Utah location.

 

Position Title: Software Application Engineer

Reports to: Customer Support & Professional Services Lead

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Status: Exempt

 

 

Areas of Responsibility

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Develop customized Android application/services for deployment on Micronet’s hardware platforms
  • Generate and distribute sample code, test applications and tutorials to support hardware sales
  • Assist the development team with test software, drivers and OS releases to meet customer expectations
  • Support customers with the software development and integration on Micronet’s hardware platforms
  • Interface with customer engineers to efficiently solve issues
  • Generate billable services by developing custom modules and training customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ability to learn new programming languages, technologies, and software
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, including good writing skills
  • Must have exceptional troubleshooting and customer service skills
  • Effective at working with remote stakeholders and peers

 

Other Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:

  • 2+ years developing Android or Java applications experience. JNI experience preferred
  • Basic electronic hardware understanding and software development process experience

Familiar with the following:

  • Android 5.1 Lollipop and newer
  • Android OS build experience preferred
  • CANBus protocol such as J1708 and J1939 preferred

Travel to customer locations to solve integration issues (up to 10%)

Education

Preferred Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
